Packaging Printed Circuit Boards: a Production Application of Interactive Graphics

By: Perrill, W. A

Description: The structure and use of an Interactive Graphics Packaging Program (IGPP), conceived to apply computer graphics to the design of packaging electronic circuits onto printed circuit boards (PCB), were described. The intent was to combine the data storage and manipulative power of the computer with the imaginative, intuitive power of a human designer. The hardware includes a CDC 6400 computer and two CDC 777 terminals with CRT screens, light pens, and keyboards. The program is written in FORTRAN 4 extended with the exception of a few functions coded in COMPASS (assembly language). The IGPP performs four major functions for the designer: (1) data input and display, (2) component placement (automatic or manual), (3) conductor path routing (automatic or manual), and (4) data output. The most complex PCB packaged to date measured 16.5 cm by 19 cm and contained 380 components, two layers of ground planes and four layers of conductors mixed with ground planes.; CASI; Nasa Publication Center: NASA (non Center Specific); Unclassified; No Copyright; Unlimited; Publicly available...

Virtual Environments for Telerobotic Shared Control

By: Christensen, Brian K

Description: The use of a virtual environment to bring about telerobotic shared control is discussed. A knowledge base, referred to as the World Model, is used to aid the system in its decision making. Information from the World Model is displayed visually in order to aid the human side of human-computer interface.; CASI; Nasa Publication Center: NASA (non Center Specific); Unclassified; Copyright (Distribution as joint owner in the copyright) ; Unlimited; Publicly available;; Report-Number: AIAA PAPER 94-2142; H-1994; NAS 1.15:4597; NASA-TM-4597...

Advanced Active Thermal Control Systems Architecture Study

By: Hanford, Anthony J.

Description: The Johnson Space Center (JSC) initiated a dynamic study to determine possible improvements available through advanced technologies (not used on previous or current human vehicles), identify promising development initiatives for advanced active thermal control systems (ATCS's), and help prioritize funding and personnel distribution among many research projects by providing a common basis to compare several diverse technologies. Some technologies included were two-phase thermal control systems, light-weight radiators, phase-change thermal storage, rotary fluid coupler, and heat pumps. JSC designed the study to estimate potential benefits from these various proposed and under-development thermal control technologies for five possible human missions early in the next century. The study compared all the technologies to a baseline mission using mass as a basis. Each baseline mission assumed an internal thermal control system; an external thermal control system; and aluminum, flow-through radiators. Solar vapor compression heat pumps and light-weight radiators showed the greatest promise as general advanced thermal technologi...

Presentation of Ligands on Hydroxylapatite

By: Orgel, Leslie E

Description: Conjugates of biotin with the decamer of glutamic acid (glu(sub 10)) and the trimer of D,L-2-amino-5-phosphonovaleric acid (I) have been synthesized, and it has been shown that they mediate the binding of avidin to hydroxylapatite. In a similar way a conjugate of methotrexate with glu(sub 10) mediates the binding of dihydrofolate reductase to the mineral. The presentation of ligands on the hydroxylapatite component of bone may find applications in clinical medicine.; CASI; Nasa Publication Center: NASA (non Center Specific); Unclassified; No Copyright; Unlimited; Publicly available; Final Report; Report-Number: NAS 1.26:204631; NASA-CR-204631...
